An engineer's way of looking
I was drawn to how things work: what is happening underneath the interface, how one decision affects another, and why a useful idea can be difficult to make real.
A bit of context
The short version: an engineering foundation, a career in enterprise IoT and product, and a healthy interest in what comes next.
I'm Ashwin Dinesh, a technology and product professional based in Singapore. I work across enterprise IoT products, bringing engineering, connectivity and business needs together. I like understanding how a system works in the field, then asking how it could work better as a product.
“Let your work speak for itself. Everything else is secondary.”— a useful reminder
I was drawn to how things work: what is happening underneath the interface, how one decision affects another, and why a useful idea can be difficult to make real.
At Singapore Polytechnic, I studied Computer Engineering and finished my diploma in 2021. It gave me a practical grounding in engineering and technology that still shapes how I think about products and trade-offs.
After polytechnic, I served National Service in the Singapore Armed Forces as a Combat Engineer. It was a different environment from engineering school, and an education in discipline, teamwork and working under pressure.
I began my professional journey at Singtel through an internship and continued into work around enterprise IoT. I got closer to the platforms, connectivity products and coordination needed to put technology into use.
I joined SIT's Applied Computing CSM pathway while continuing to work full-time. The degree let me connect classroom ideas with industry experience; the work and study commitments also taught me to plan carefully, keep showing up and get more comfortable with uncertainty.
During that period, I progressed from an IoT product development associate to IoT Product Manager. The move made me curious about the questions around engineering: which problem matters, who is it for, and what trade-offs make a solution useful?
I completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Computing at SIT in 2026, graduating with Honours with Distinction. My studies covered several areas of computing, including cybersecurity, and my capstone gave me a chance to think about how different parts of a system fit together.
As President of SIT's Applied Computing Student Management Committee, I wanted working students to have ways to connect beyond lessons and assignments. I also joined the SIT team supporting PyCon Singapore 2025. Both experiences taught me that learning is shaped by people as much as by course material.
Product work and study have widened my interest in business, strategy and leadership. I like understanding how technical choices fit into customer needs, operating realities and long-term direction. I continue to learn and build, with plenty still to figure out.
Outside work · Travel
I love to travel. I enjoy being somewhere new, looking around, and noticing the everyday details that are easy to miss when you already know a place.

Curious about a project or a problem we might think through together?
